Today was the rarest of all holidays, the snow day! The snow will melt quickly over the next few days, so it was imperative to take the boys sledding. I worked from home, so during lunch we ran to the park for 45 minutes of fun. Jenny had to work :( so it was just the guys this time. She is not a fan of the cold, but she has learned to love sledding since she was introduced to it 15 years ago. The only thing she did that was similar was ice blocking in La CaƱada. While it is snowing it is not that cold. Really cold weather comes when the skies are sparkling blue and their are no clouds to insulate the heat.

Teacher's Pet
Alex had a secret plan. It existed before we went to Mardi Gras. For weeks has been scheming to bring Mardi Gras back to Dublin. When he returned, he used all his acquired loot as throws, so he could be his own one man Krewe. He tooks bags of stuffed animals, beads, cups and even a boa to school. He threw them out to his classmates, and for a shinning moment, Alex Patton was King of the Carnivale. RAP (2.11.2008)

Good Haul
The boys once again had a lovely Mardi Gras, and acquired a lot of beads, stuffed animals and trinkets. When Michael returned his teacher asked him what he said to the people on the floats. He replied that yelled "Hey beautiful, lady!," just as his dad instruted him to do. Smart kid. That is why we succeeded. The boys and I charmed all the girls on the floats, I even had the boys blow kisses as thank yous! One float in particular in the Muses parade, the girls would not stop giving us stuff. We even got a coveted high heel shoe, which is a huge Mardi Gras trophy. RAP (2.7.2008)

St. Louis Cathedral
Our guys really like Mardi Gras, and I can't think of many experiences that top it for kids their age. I can think of a few that equal it, but not exceed. Soon Mardi Gras will take on a whole different meaning for the boys (especially Alex!), so it is nice to take them now. They enjoyed meeting their cousin, Molly, but that should not be a surprise. They seem to like all their cousins.

Cousins
Jen took Alex for one of his periodic orthodontist appointments this morning. Being Alex, he instructed the lady that she needed to cut the wire down to make it shorter. Jen was slightly embarrassed, and she instructed Alex to tone it down. Soon the orthodontist was finished, and when she looked at Alex she said: "I need to cut that wire down a bit."
After it was cut down, Jen took Alex back to school. He wanted her to come with him, because if you have a parent with you, you can cut through the office. He was not concerned about saving the 10 seconds so much as he wanted to strut through the office and say "Hi" to everyone. When they arrived at class, Jen said her goodbyes to him and instructed him to be quiet as he went into class, so an not to disturb the academic proceedings. So he opened the door very quietly, and tiptoed into the class. He got all the way in unnoticed, and then boisterously exclaimed "Hey Everybody!"

Michael Jake
Last weekend we visited Billy, Wendy Jake and Ellie. Michael was using a VCR in bill's basement and Jacob and shoved some cars into it. Toddlers like to do that; they find it very amusing. Anyways, he actions pseudo-broke (only pseudo because it was fixed later) it. Michael felt responsible for it and told Bill in a hushed but serious voice "so do I owe a few dollars for that."

Got You
This morning Jenny asked Alex to clean up his room. After he said he was finished, during inspection, she congratulated him on making his bed so well (painfully ignoring heaping lumps of bears under the comforter) then noted the pairs of used underwear and socks on the floor.
He said he did that to show he's growing up. "I'm living like a teenager now," he told her.
