Jenny and Michael enjoyed their visit you guys in California. One of Michael's highlights was his water stand (by the way, this won't be the last picture of it you will see!).
I think that his water stand demonstrates that he has a 'can do spirit' and a very large degree of optimism in his soul. I don't think he would have to be sold on the idea that in America you can be whatever you want to be. I think he innately knows, that with work, he can achieve anything he wants, and overcome any obstacle. Even the formidable price of Kinectix Tower.

The Perfect Snowball
Whereas Alex is a boy of summer, Michael is a man for all seasons. He loves the spring, summer, fall and even winter; especially the winter. In fact, Michael seems to spend more time playing outside in the snow than he does in the warm, verdant days.
You can see him playing with his snowball maker that Santa left under the tree. I have to admit, it does make perfect snowballs. It's downfall is that it takes time to use, and while he is making a perfect snowball he is getting pelted with imperfect ones. Perhaps this can be a needed object lesson; don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Alex, and "Baby" by extension, are eagerly anticipating Michael's return from California. Alex has wanted to call Michael several times to share pieces of minutia that are very important to a 5 year old. Stuff such as "we had it to level 24 in Flicky!," "I got a Spider-Bear whose name is Climber when he is not a Spider-Bear," and the oh so popular "Static Shock was on Justice League Unlimited!"
The last one has Alex going bonkers, nearly exploding from trying to keep that information to himself. It is actually quite funny to see what little things that make him want to talk to his brother, to see the things that they share.

You Lead; I Follow
I am sorry about the recent pause in the flow of postcards; I have been busy creating a DVD for one of Michael's school projects. It is called, "I, Robot Expert."
The boys have been pretty crazy lately, but that is the way I like them. Michael has had a series of good days at school and Alex has been behaving pretty well lately also.

He goes by Big Bear
Here is Alex with the newest member of his band of bears --'Big Bear.' At first, it might be easy to poke fun of the names he assigns his fluffy friends; monikers such as 'cuddly,' 'blue bear' and 'mixed-up bear' seem pedestrian, but if you consider what our own names mean, you may gain new respect for his ways.
The famous wordsmith, Tonto, christened the Lone Ranger, 'Kemosabe.' That seems exotic enough, even for the parents who are now naming their children such things as 'Apple' and 'Rumor.' However, what is overlooked is the meaning of 'Kemosabe;' it means 'friend of Indian.' If that moniker was in English, it would be as simple and ordinary as Alex name for his new friend 'Big Bear.' The fault is not within Alex, but within us for not knowing what our names mean.

Page Turner
Michael's reading skills continue to grow each day. He is not fearless in his reading selections, but he certainly has left the shallow end. He reads just about any illustrated children's books, and lately has been pretty enthusiastic about reading the comics in the paper. He likes to read Peanuts and Garfield.
One of the best things about Michael's newly attained skill is that he willing shares it's fruits with his little brother. At Michael's insistence, most bedtimes consist of Michael reading to Alex instead of Jenny and I reading to them.

Early Christmas Morning
Jenny mentioned that you liked the fireplace picture, so here it is. Each year, I make sure the fire keeps the Tannenbaum company in the wee hours of Christmas dawn. The picture may be dark, but you can see the fire and tree, after Santa, but before the boys.
This is the quiet time, full of the magic, enchantment and promise of a Christmas; the stockings are full, all the presents are under the tree, and for a few more moments visions of sugar plums are dancing in the kids heads.
